Background

During the summer of 2002, my father, Kent Rabon, was visiting Marathon, Texas and the wonderful landscapes of the Big Bend area. He being in the construction industry was amazed to see the ease at which one man was stacking an over-sized brick. Clyde Curry explained how the light weight block was made of recycled paper and cement, and went on to show my father his home and wonderful bed and breakfast (Visit EvesGarden.org). Kent discovered beautiful domes and arches built out of blocks made of this cellulose and cement blend. Clyde and my father visited for a while; and when it was mentioned that I had recently purchased a concrete Ready-Mix business, Clyde sent a block back to Mason and with came an idea. Upon seeing the block, my eyes lit up and thus the inception of Blox Building Systems began.

Zach Rabon, President

I grew up following my dad around jobsite to jobsite, new home after new home. Watching, observing and learning from what I saw truly helped me gain the knowledge I now have about the business. Upon attending Texas Tech University; I chose to study and received my degree in the Ecology and Conservation of Natural Resources because I saw immediate potential for changes in building methods and materials. For several years following graduation, my father and I built high-end custom homes. I was becoming frustrated with the amount of waste, labor, time, cost and quality of materials we received at various job sites. Roll-off containers full of wasted construction materials were being hauled off to the landfill at a costly price to the customer. The complexity of maintaining work schedules with numerous crews involved became overwhelming. The cost and quality of building materials and supplies were heading opposite directions. All of this lead me to think, "Is there a better way?"

I branched off on my own to specialize in concrete, specifically Ready-Mix. Being eager in the business, I tried to maximize the use of all equipment and manpower. The idea of pouring these blocks seemed like the avenue to take. It has since become my life.

There were many factors that lead to the first Blox manufactured. My ecology background exposed the issues. The knowledge gained from my father gave me a platform. Clyde 's introduction to the concept of the block combined with my views with construction present the purpose to find the solution.

Around this time I showed my first Blox to a good college friend of mine, Josh Hargrove. Josh was working with a nation-wide construction company rebuilding multi-family homes that were damaged by fire, flood, mold, etc. "Seeing families having to abandon their homes and possessions after such catastrophes was getting old and preventive measures could be made in most situations." Josh saw my same vision and plight. He quickly came aboard and has helped with the development of our current products.

We have since added some likeminded, energetic folks to come aboard and take our Blox Building Systems into mainstream construction. Curtis Galloway and Todd Amy have joined the team to add their expertise in the areas of automation, distribution, and logistics. Kent Rabon adds all of his years of construction experience to the team with onsite consulting and job-planning.

With five years of development and research, and over 130,000 various Blox poured, we are finally ready to introduce the future of building. Our dedication to producing quality Blox is evident in production process. Our patent pending process allows us to provide a masonry unit that will change the construction industry. People always say "This is so amazing!" We at Blox Building Systems, feel as though "We did not re-invent the wheel, just the "cinder block.""
